How To Manually Track Sales on Amazon
The most accurate way to track the sales of Amazon products is by monitoring the inventory level… But how do you do that without currently selling the product yourself?
With any product, you can add 999 units to your cart. This is called the 999 cart method…. very original right?
Once you update the cart it will show the number of units the seller has in stock
As you can see in the example above, this seller only has 754 units in stock
Next, check back every day at the same time to see how the inventory levels are decreasing. This will show you exactly how many units were sold each day
Now, this won’t work on every single product… You may run into a couple different scenarios
Seller Has Limited A Limit Of “X” Per Customer
This will happen when the seller is promoting products and protecting their inventory. They do this so a customer can’t buy every single unit they have in stock with one single coupon
Sellers might also do this to hide the amount of inventory they have in stock so competitors aka us…. can’t use this method
Seller Has Over 999 Units In Stock
This will typically happen with products that sell a large volume each and every month. They need plenty of stock to keep up with demand so having over 999 units is necessary… Don’t worry though, there are ways to get around this
Automatically Track Sales
If you run into either above issues where the 999 cart method isn’t working, you can track the Amazon sales based on the best sellers rank…
The Jungle Scout Product Tracker will automatically track the sales based on the inventory level or the BSR if the inventory level is not available
It tracks the following data on a day to day basis :
- Inventory Level
- Units Sold
- Best Sellers Rank
- Buy Box Price
Amazon Product Trackers – Sales History
Instead of just looking at one day’s data or even 60 days of data, you can look at the BSR history for the lifetime of the product. This will give you a great idea of the seasonality and overall market for the product
Keepa
Using the free Keepa Chrome Extension is the quickest way to look at the overall sales history of any product while on Amazon
Keepa breaks down multiple different data points but the main things to look for are :
- Best Sellers Rank
- Price History
- Review Count
- Date Range – make sure to look at all the options here. Day, week, month, 3 months, year, and all time
CamelCamelCamel
Another free tool to track the sales of Amazon products is CamelCamelCamel. This is very similar to the Keepa extension but their chrome extension only provides price data.
To get the sales rank history data you will have to use the web-based version of CamelCamelCamel
The best way to track products on Amazon is by using the 999 cart method…
Since this doesn’t work every time, using estimates based on the BSR is the way to go. Don’t forget to take a step back and look at all the data possible
